Company Profile

The Opticians Practice in Macclesfield was opened in 1990 and moved into a much larger premises in August 2000.

Oldbury & Cruickshank Opticians stock a wide range of frames at competitive prices including many designer ranges. Our experienced dispensing staff will select the most appropriate lenses and frames to offer our patients from an enormous range available to us. We understand that it is well worthwhile to spend time and that extra attention to detail throughout the practice but especially in the supply and manufacture of new spectacles, as independent optometrists we believe it sets us apart from the rest.

We offer a broad range of specialist clinics which reflects our optometrists commitment to developing the scope of vision care services through Continued Education and Training.

A Full Eyecare Service

At Oldbury & Cruickshank Opticians we feel it is essential to provide a full eyecare service. In our new Macclesfield premises we are able to extend our role in providing help for those needing Low Vision Aids, sufferers from dry eyes plus Jean Oldbury has a special interest in helping patients with specific learning difficulties including dyslexia. The existing eyecare services for patients with diabetes and glaucoma remain available with the addition of new tests such as 3D OCT scans which provides a sectional scan of the back of your eyes, retinal photography and nerve fiber layer analysis. We also believe in offering excellent value on spectacles and contact lenses.

The move to our current practice…

To support our commitment to quality, we moved our Macclesfield practice to 73 Pickford Street in August 2000. Only a few yards away from the old site, the new practice has more space and improved facilities. There are now five fully equipped high tech consulting rooms and 3 clinical rooms.

Although the surroundings have changed, many patients will still recognise the people.

Our practice manager is Jackie Price.

Jackie has over 20 years experience in running the practice and has attended many training courses on technical skills, customer care and Practice management.

Marie is now primarily involved in undertaking additional clinical tests and organise the diabetic clinics. These clinical tests include visual fields, retinal photography and GDx scans.

Jackie,Paul,Clare and Becky are responsible for the dispensing of spectacles. They make sure your new glasses look and feel good as well as meeting your requirements.

Providing further support are Optical Assistants Shelly ,Lynn ,Marie,Holly and Front of House Team Leader Jackie G with Sarah doing the admin.

We have Clare running the Marketing Department , Tracey is our Training Manager and Sandra is in charge of Human Resources

Our expert glazing technician Tania is on hand most days to make your new glasses as soon as possible with Alex working hard in our offices to keep on top or our accounts.

When you visit the practice, your eyes will be examined by one of our Optometric team. This consists of Nigel and Jean Oldbury, Ruth Oldfield, Heidi Behnam, Michael Bradbury and Alex Rigby. In 1998 Nigel Oldbury became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, whilst attending the annual conference in San Francisco and in 2000 gained one of the first Diplomas in Therapeutics awarded to Optometrists in the UK.

As well as providing general eye care, Oldbury & Cruickshank specialise in vision problems caused by diabetes, glaucoma and dyslexia. Jean Oldbury has a particular interest in dyslexia and photosensitive migraine, both of which affect the eyesight of sufferers. Our practice is often able to treat the visual effects of dyslexia through special eye exercises, coloured overlays and tinted lenses. Using an instrument called a colourimeter, we can identify the most effective tints for spectacles for suitable patients.

Whatever your visual requirements, you’ll find everyone at Oldbury & Cruickshank is dedicated to keeping your eyesight in the best possible condition at all times. If you have any questions or concerns about your vision, please do not hesitate to contact us.
